The Esketemc have been in central British Columbia for thousands of years and there are many attractions that highlight our extensive history and culture. The best way to learn about our culture is to simply walk around our village and interact with the locals. The people are extremely friendly and love meeting visitors from different places. Additionally, we have set up various exhibits where visitors can really experience first-hand different aspects of Esketemc culture. Sweat Lodges and Teepees have been built specially for visitors, the greenhouse is open for tours and many locally made arts and crafts are on sale. To learn about the Esketemc history we offer tours of many sites on Esketemc land that contain archaeological sites. Things from carvings and paintings on the rocks to Esketemc settlements that are thousands of years old. Irvine and the other elders are veritable encyclopedias on the Esketemc history and love sharing their knowledge.
To learn more about the various attractions including further information on each topic and information for visitors: In addition to the Esketemc Heritage Sites, there are historic gold mining sites along the river. These are old sites left from the time of the historic gold rush. There are no maps showing these sites, but they can be seen from the river and could be pointed out by Esketemc river rafting guides. See River Rafting section for more detail. |
