Chilcotin River and Upper Fraser River
For the casual rafters that are more interested in seeing the beautiful scenery of the Fraser valley, there are numerous guided tours that are offered. There are Esketemc Heritage Sites along the river that are accessible by boat only. These include pictographs (paintings on rocks), petroglyphs (carvings on rocks) and kiglee/pit houses In addition to the Esketemc Heritage Sites, there are historic gold mining sites along the river. These are old sites left from the time of the historic gold rush. There are no maps showing these sites, but they can be seen from the river and can be pointed out by Esketemc river rafting guides. The following are some sites that deal with gold rush sites in British Columbia in the Cariboo-Chilcotin area. These sites are informational for tourists looking to explore historical gold rush sites:
Lower Fraser River
For the more adventuresome rafters, the lower Fraser offers rapids as strong as class IV. All trips are led by an experienced Esketemc guide. Visitors should be in good physical shape and should be able to swim, no other skills are required - your guide will teach you everything else you need to know. All equipment, on all the trips, including life jackets and waterproof containers are provided. Visitors should bring some clothes that they don't mind getting wet, a dry set of clothes to change into and towels.
